Stop the Clash

I thought this bears wider dissemination. It's from the people who collected 52,000 signatures on a petition calling for Wolfie's resignation.

was paying his girlfriend a ridiculously large salary the only thing they're pissed about? or is there more to it than that?

As I understand it, Wolfie was selected as WB head precisely in order to solve the the problem of corruption, which is defined in part by by officials giving favors to their undeserving cronies... Since he was accused of doing just that, and there was evidence to support the accusation, it appeared that he had compromised his own main reason for being there.

But apparently there were some management objections as well. He brought in a bunch of Bush administration personnel who threw their weight around, such that half of the top executives just quit, after feeling alienated and dismissed.

Finally, there was a perception that he would never deny any money for rebuilding Iraq, even as he unilaterally cancelled some credit lines without explanation.
